New cross-border wharf in Vila Real de Santo António, in Portugal
02-05-2018
The new cross-border pier in Vila Real de Santo António (Portugal), which allows the movement of passengers and vehicles for river crossings between this Portuguese city and the Spanish town of Ayamonte, has been recently inaugurated by the Portuguese Minister of the Sea, Ana Paula Vitorino , after a complex rehabilitation. Docapesca, the entity that manages this infrastructure, has relied on Lindley to make the dock operational again, since it was in an advanced state of degradation.
The rehabilitation of the new wharf has included the dismantling of the existing access bridge and the installation of a new one of 16 meters long and 3 meters wide, with a steel structure and a suitable cover for the circulation of people and vehicles. Three steel-reinforced concrete pontoons (total area of ??45m²) have also been installed, equipped with horizontal and vertical fenders for the mooring area. To guarantee the safety of users, the dock has been equipped with electricity and water service pedestals, emergency ladders, autonomous LED lanterns that ensure safety in navigation and solar lighting systems.
Lindley's experience in floating solutions for ports has been essential for the realization of this project, which has involved the development of a robust solution sized to support the loads resulting from the mooring of boats, as well as the movement of cars.
