Port of Almeria expands mooring capacity at the fishing anchorage
02-12-2024
As part of the ongoing program for the planning and integration of the fishing port developed over the past decade, the Port of Almeria has completed a new expansion of the landing and anchorage area for fishing vessels. This latest development includes the installation, on the west side, of two new concrete floating pontoons (No. 5 and No. 6), which add to the project that began in 2020 with the installation of the first two floating structures supplied by Almarin. Two additional pontoons were added in 2023, and by the end of 2024, the most recent ones were installed. With this, the anchorage capacity has increased by 40 additional berths, bringing the total to 120 operational berths.
The new pontoons, 15 meters long and 2.4 meters wide, are equipped with a stainless steel access gate, an aluminum gangway, and accessories such as marine pedestals providing water and electricity, along with an emergency ladder to ensure the safety of the fishermen. Additionally, the Port Authority of Almeria has continued using a mooring system with elastic ropes attached to concrete anchors, eliminating the need for traditional chains. This solution not only improves operational efficiency but also reduces the environmental impact on the seabed.
