Portuguese town Figueira da Foz opens a new floating dock in Mondego river
27-08-2020
Portuguese coastal village Figueira da Foz, near Coimbra, opens a new floating pier in Mondego river after an investment of 100.000,00 euros. Manufactured and installed by Lindley, the aim of the infrastructure is to guarantee the access to the river, using the existing stairs and ramp, as well to improve the conditions for recreational activities, nautical sports and tourism.
The 40-meter length pontoon is formed with three access gangways, two of them with lowered handrails to allow for ease of handling the long rowing boats, which will be its main activity. Moreover, the floating structure is prepared for the mooring of nautical boats, having two different freeboards, and it is strategically located to be operational in all tides. The project was designed to withstand the horizontal moves caused by currents of the river using radius arms as mooring system.
This infrastructure is part of a protocol signed two years ago between the municipality and Centro Náutico do Ginásio Clube Figueirense (GCF), which is the concessionaire of the area where the nautical center is located until 2029 and it will be its main user.
