LINDLEY secures the supply of floating equipment for the New Vilamoura Marina with innovative solutions
28-01-2025
Lindley, a specialist in floating solutions and maritime signalling, was responsible for the supply and installation of the floating infrastructures of the new extension of the Vilamoura Marina, inaugurated on November 23, 2024, during the celebrations of the Marina's 50th anniversary, under a comprehensive contract executed by ETERMAR.
The project stands out for the installation of three new floating quays for 68 berths for vessels between 25 and 55 meters. The project involved the design and manufacture of 104 pontoons built with PFC (Continuous Floating Pontoon) technology in prefabricated steel-reinforced concrete and polystyrene core. These pontoons guarantee high strength, stable freeboard, durability in the marine environment and are prepared for high loading.
To meet the requirements and demands of Vilamoura World and Pódio Navegante, companies of the ARROW group and project developers, the design, manufacturing, and installation underwent intense detailed work and involved a multidisciplinary team. The following points stand out:
- Minimum 650mm freeboard throughout the new marina: a challenge accomplished by LINDLEY's engineering team that needed to integrate more than 12,000m of electrical cables and pipes under the deck of the walkways, in addition to the multipurpose pedestals, mooring bollards, emergency services and other accessories, which required a great level of detail and coordination to ensure the comfort and safety of vessels and users;
- Multipurpose service points for all moorings, including remote management and monitoring of water and electricity consumption;
- Individual system per pump-out station for sanitary water;
- Floor lighting using high efficiency LEDs;
- Comfortable access systems by means of bridges and gates integrated into the overall architecture of the marina.
The challenging deadline for the execution of all works required rigorous planning and continuous permanent coordination between LINDLEY, the main contractor ETERMAR, other service providers and the end customer. The installation activities took place simultaneously with works on the outer jetty and the basin, and the logistics were adapted to minimize the impact in the high tourist season. All activities were planned between the various entities so that the transport and unloading of heavy and oversized parts would be carried out at dawn and/or at the end of the day, to minimize safety risks and not affect visitors, tourists and users of the existing marina.
With this project, Lindley reinforces its position as an Iberian leader in the construction of floating concrete pontoons, totalling more than 20,000 linear meters manufactured since 1994. This investment positions the Vilamoura Marina as an international reference for the reception of large yachts, highlighting Portugal in the global nautical panorama.
According to a statement from Lindley, the high level of commitment, knowledge, and accumulated experience enabled the completion of a project initially planned for 16 months in less than a year. "We are proud to have participated and met this challenge in record time, working in coordination with the other companies involved, delivering a solution that meets the technical and service demands of an excellent marina such as the New Marina of Vilamoura," the company concludes.
